What's your favorite version of the Traveller RPG? And is your favorite setting and rules set the same, or do you use one rules set in another setting?
Re: Favorite Traveller RPG Version?
MGT in my own ATU. I also run a MGT Trojan Reach campaign set during the 4FW but the 3I is a lot darker and less monolithic IMTU
I like to pick and pluck things from T5 occasionally to spice it up

Must say we as a group have been loving the new look Mongoose version. Very pretty and some great rule tweaks. And streamlined to make play easy.

I like the Mongoose version quite a bit too. Familiar, but with enough new stuff to make it interesting. Central Supply Catalog is one of my favorites, I like all the art.

I chose GURPS Traveller, mostly due to the fact that it is the only campaign (set in the Reft - Islands Cluster of Trillion Credit Squadron fame) we are currently playing, on- and off-ish. Still love my old Traveller and MegaTraveller books, though - and would give newer versions a chance if there was a group around.

Over the years I've tried GURPS once or twice (don't think I've ever tried to play Traveller with GURPS though). The system definitely has a lot of potential, but I never sat down and really learned it.Rraurgrimm wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 1:59 amI chose GURPS Traveller, mostly due to the fact that it is the only campaign (set in the Reft - Islands Cluster of Trillion Credit Squadron fame) we are currently playing, on- and off-ish. I always end up going back to CT and using the Striker tables for weapons etc, with a slight tweak to the damage table so that instead of 3d6 or 6d6 damage only, you can take 1d6 - 6d6.

I've only ever played CT, but that was back in the 80s and 90s. I ordered the Mongoose Starter Set over the weekend and hope to introduce my adult kids and their friends to the Traveller universe through it in the coming weeks.

I really feel MgT is a good compromise between being simple, and yet having enough game elements to be interesting and expandable.

I only have ever played Traveller Classic and only briefly in the early 80s. We used to generate characters, just to see what would come out of character creation.
